Better Than Flowers ...The American Liberty Elm Gift Tree

A Fitting Memorial

American Liberty Elms are appropriate as a living memorial for a loved one or member of your community or organization. They can be planted to honor someone who benefited your town or school. Consider planting a Liberty Grove to honor past presidents of your club or retiring employees who gave many years of service. What better way to remember someone for generations to come.

Elm Research Institute offers a Commemorative Membership. A 5-6 ft. American Liberty Elm along with a 3" x 3" engraved Corian® plaque will be shipped to a location of your choice. Commemorative trees are used to honor someone, living or deceased. They also make appropriate wedding, anniversary gifts or can be used as an acknowledgement of service to community or country. The membership can be taken out in the name of a deceased or living person. Order yours today!

Why the American Liberty Elm?

One of the hallmarks of American cities and towns used to be the beautiful trees that lined their streets and town squares. Their arching branches were so large that they met overhead and their shade cooled the ground beneath them. Most often, these trees were American Elms. Our parents and grandparents can still remember the cool cathedral-like spaces that made city streets welcoming especially in summer. But those days were long ago. It is the hope of this site that you will take one small step toward restoring those canopy-covered lanes for future generations.

If you are looking for something unusual, a gift that the recipient will cherish and remember the giver, then consider giving an American Liberty Elm. Unlike cut flowers, the beauty of your tree will endure long beyond the occasion.

The trees that we are offering are purebred descendants of American elm parent trees that were able to resist Dutch elm disease. They are street-tested for over eighteen years and come with a lifetime warranty against Dutch elm disease. These trees are not European or Asian hybrids and they retain the classic vase-like shape of their predecessors. The spreading fullness of the mature American elm has earned it the nickname "flower of shade trees." The American Liberty Elm has also demonstrated remarkable growth, putting on an average of two to three feet per growing season. As a true American elm, they can be expected to reach 100 feet or more at maturity. Order yours today!
